An Indian Legend
There once was a blind man, who by the grace of the Great Spirit, was about to be given sight.
When asked which he would rather see first, the sun or the moon, the blind man answered, "The sun, because it is the source of all warmth and life."
The Great Spirit granted him his wish, and the man looked up directly into the sun, and tears filled his eyes. However, because the man did not look away, the intensity of the sun caused the man to soon become blind again.
The Great Spirit then asked the blind man, "Would you have rather seen the moon, now knowing the sun would have blinded you thus?"
The blind man replied, "No. In those few moments, I have seen more beauty and love than most men do in their entire lives. No, I am happy. I have no need to see again."
